The "down on one knee in the sand at sunset" story

This isn't the beginning of Michael and I's story, but it is the beginning of our wedding story.

If you didn't know, Michael and his family and I went to Maui right after Christmas.  The second night we were there, we decided to have a memorial for Michael's great uncle who had recently passed away.  We bought some flowers (that I picked out) and waited until sunset to let them go into the ocean.

As soon as we reached the beach Michael asked me to hold the flowers while he got his knife out of his pocket to trim the stems shorter.  Unsuspecting of anything, I held the flowers and waited.  It wasn't until he got down on one knee in the sand that I realized he hadn't gotten his knife out of his pocket but rather a beautiful ring.

So there we were at sunset in Maui on the sand and Michael was on one knee holding a ring out to me.  All he said was "Will you marry me?" and I don't even think that I said yes, I just said "reeeaaallly???" and then grabbed the ring and hugged Michael.  Looking back I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't say yes and I snatched the ring out of the box at light speed.  When we finally let go from our hug, Michael had a small freak out because he didn't know where the ring had gone (it was in my hand the whole time) and he was terrified that it was gone forever.  Finally the ring was actually on my finger and we were officially engaged!

In celebration, we walked down the beach and watched Hula dancing, before heading back to the condo and calling (just about) every person we know!
